Devil’s Punch Bowl State Natural Area is a small day use park situated on the coast of Otter Rock, Oregon.
We made Devil’s Punch Bowl one of our stopping points as we traveled southwest from Portland for a weekend getaway in Newport. The “Punchbowl” itself is fenced off (to keep it short, people have died there) but the view point above it is expansive. The bowl is thought to have been created when two caves, carved by the ocean, collapsed.
We only did a quick stop but visitors can definitely make a day trip out of it. On either sides of the Punchbowl, the beaches provide natural areas for exploring tide pools and picnicking. It’s also a popular spot for surfers.
