The Old Pulteney Distillery has the reputation of producing the finest single-malt in the world; the Old Pulteney 21 was named “World Whisky of the Year” in the Whisky Bible. Not having a predilection for alcohol, let alone hard alcohol, that all sounds like the ravings of an alcoholic to me but what do I know? I just went on the tour for their fudge!
Actually, the dark and imposing industrial buildings of the distillery was pretty neat to tour. It was also neat to see the same two-century process being used to produce malt whisky from a single wash still and a single spirit still.
Many of these caskets are older than us!
2002 was a good year.
The tours ends in the tasting room with two options: one tasting or three for the
alcoholic connoisseur. Husband opted for one tasting.
I can’t say anything about the whisky itself, but the Old Pulteney Single Malt Scotch Whisky Fudge is AMAZING. We discovered it on our last trip to Scotland and were really excited to visit the distillery for the fudge. We purchased several tins to bring back home as gifts.
