Though relatively short, the Tommy Thompson Trail along the Anacortes waterfront offers beautiful views of Mount Baker, Fidalgo Bay, and the chance to watch seagulls swoop clams out of the ocean and crack them on the paved trail.

Over the summer, my family and I visited this trail several times to walk, jog, and bike out to the 2,000-foot-long paved trestle that ends at March Point Road.

The trail passes right by Fidalgo Bay RV Resort, where this “Public Art” sign is located.

The 2.4 miles (when starting at The Port of Anacortes) makes for a short ride on a bike but the views are so beautiful it is fun to do several times for a longer ride. Always make sure to bring a spare tire –there are a lot of broken shells on the trestle path. The seagulls like to use the paved trail as a surface for breaking their food.

Jack Jack wishes the trail was a lot longer. He can chase seagulls for miles.
