The Crescent Moon Ranch Picnic Site is home to one of the most photographed and iconic scenes in the southwest. With the towering Cathedral Rock reflected onto the waters of Oak Creek at Red Rock Crossing, it is easy to see why photographers, tourists, and new-age hippies flock to the area.
Before it became a state park, and before new-age entrepreneurs started taking advantage of tourists (Third eye! Vortexes! Spiritual awakening, oh my!), Crescent Moon Ranch was sprawling with orchards and grazing cattle. First settled in 1880, the property changed hands several times but served the same agricultural purpose until the 1970s. In 1980, the U.S. Forest Service purchased the property and restored the nearby sprawling ranch house which can now be rented. Other remnants of the homestead still stand today.
Not only has there been reports of spiritual awakenings at the on-site vortex, there have also been reports of Bigfoot terrorizing visitors.
Vortex location, where visitors are supposed to feel a whole range of sensations. Like skepticism. That’s a sensation right?
Whether you believe in vortexes or believe in physics, a visit to Crescent Moon Ranch will definitely leave you in awe of the glorious sights.
