Cripple Creek Jail Museum
One of Cripple Creek's most interesting spots to visit is the historic Outlaws & Lawmen Museum, which offers a glimpse into the shadier side of the World’s Greatest Gold Camp. The original jail cells are still intact today, having only been closed in 1991 (open since 1901).
The worst known offender is this guy. He's guilty of wearing a Seahawks shirt. The Seahawks offense? Losing Super Bowl 49 and playing very questionably this season.
Cell graffiti, probably carved by a member of the Pittsburgh Steelers.
That mustache is criminal.
Some good advice because...
Makeshift weapons.
The jail matron had her own bedroom on the upper floor close to the cells of the female inmates (also housed on the upper floor).
Cripple Creek Jail housed mostly local burglars, robbers, highwaymen and other minor criminals but one of its more gruesome tenants was Robert Lee Harpool, who was housed there for 13 months prior to a life term sentencing at the Colorado State Penitentiary in Canon City. Harpool was convicted for the murders of two teenagers, having shot both several times in the head before slicing their ears off. And with that we leave you with this lovely little jail-house ditty:
