Cripple Creek Jail Museum

One of Cripple Creek's most interesting spots to visit is the historic Outlaws & Lawmen Museum, which offers a glimpse into the shadier side of the World’s Greatest Gold Camp. The original jail cells are still intact today, having only been closed in 1991 (open since 1901).

Cripple Creek Jail housed mostly local burglars, robbers, highwaymen and other minor criminals but one of its more gruesome tenants was Robert Lee Harpool, who was housed there for 13 months prior to a life term sentencing at the Colorado State Penitentiary in Canon City. Harpool was convicted for the murders of two teenagers, having shot both several times in the head before slicing their ears off. And with that we leave you with this lovely little jail-house ditty:
