After a year of putting off exploring Madera Canyon, we finally made it out there and were pleasantly surprised. Not only did we get to see fall foliage, we also found a steep trail that led to an old, abandoned mine that operated in the 1900s.

The elevation gain on this trail made me feel like I was out of shape. I don't think husband broke a sweat though. >_<

Real trees! Living in the desert, I get excited easily by this...

Apparently Madera Canyon is THE place to bird watch.... we saw more bird photographers than actual birds....
