Just minutes outside of downtown Bellingham is the beautifully serene Stimpson Family Nature Reserve, a great place for trail running, family hikes, and exploring nature.

At the trailhead is a tree decorated with peanut butter covered pinecones that attract many of the birds in the preserve.
The reserve is a largely undisturbed, old growth forest with a wide diversity of fauna. It contains two ponds and additional wetland areas like small running falls and creeks.

The Geneva Pond was frozen when hiked the 1.2 mile loop.
Testing the solidity of the ice pond with rocks. Like mother, like son. =P
