West Fork of Oak Creek in Sedona has been on my Arizona bucketlist for some time. This past weekend we were finally able to cross it off!

After crossing the bridge, the first signifcant thing seen are the remnants of Mayhew Lodge. The buildings were originally constructed in 1860 but weren't converted and opened as a lodge until 1925. This and this is what it originally looked like before the buildings burned down in the late 1970's.

This was a very shallow cave so we assumed it was used for storage.

The remains of one of the building structures has become overrun with plant growth.

Past the Mayhew Lodge, the trail offers plenty of shade from the tall canyon walls and trees.

The water is cold but felt very refreshing in the heat!

Most people turn around at about the 2 mile point. We hiked to the end, which to us was not as scenic (although still beautiful) and understand why hikers turn around at 2 miles.
