We seem to have started a tradition of visiting the UK every 2 years. One that I wholeheartedly think we should continue, husband on the other hand has other ideas…. anyway, our first stop on our Cornwall and Wales vacation was an absolutely beautiful historical ruin: Wheal Coates.
Just 37 minutes away from the little Newquay airport (where we flew into) near St. Agnes, sits Cornwall’s most iconic engine house. This structure, built around the 1870s, was once part of a tin mine that opened in 1802 (although this area has been mined since the medieval era). This mine was in operation sporadically before it was closed for good in 1914.

Towanroath Engine House – Inside this structure there once was a steam engine that was used to pump water from 606 ft / 185 m below the surface:






Not a bad view to start our trip!
