Yorktown Battlefield & Cornwallis's Cave
After visiting Historic Jameston and the Jamestown Settlement, we drove down Colonial Parkway to visit the Yorktown Battlefield, the place that effectively ended the American Revolutionary War.
Cannons left over from the siege of Yorktown.
During the bombardment of the siege, General Washington fired the first gun. It is said that it smashed into a table where British officers were eating.
Several British ships were damaged by these cannons that flew across the town and into the harbor.
Can you see the very tiny spec of white at the right center? It's a surrender flag.
At the Yorktown Battlefield is a small visitor center with interesting exhibits at the museum:
Lord Cornwallis's campaign table. The top and base can be broken down for transportation.
