John O’ Groats, a Not So Dismal Place in Scotland

It took us 2 years but we’re here. We made it. Now what?

Which is precisely what we asked one another once we arrived at the most northern tip of mainland Scotland. Shortly followed by ‘It looks cold out there. Do we want to get out of the car? We should at least get a picture…’ Because it didn’t happen if there isn’t a photo so here’s our proof:

We made it to John O’Groats! 2 years ago we were in Land’s End, approximately 874 miles away and the most southern point of the British Isles. John O’ Groats and Land’s End are used as the start or finishing point for the masochists wanting to hike, bike, piggyback ride, or cartwheel from one end of the island to the other. We work for a living so we did it by car… not even our own car. Some overpriced Mercedes rental. Regardless, we’ve covered the island! It doesn’t even matter to us that John O’Groats was voted “the most dismal place in Scotland”. Hey, we had fun! WE BROUGHT OUR OWN SUNSHINE.

What we should’ve brought were warmer clothes.

We lingered long enough for a few photos, enjoy a meal of fish and chips, and to purchase souvenirs –and by that I’m referring to a Scottish wool scarf because it was cold. It was locally made so it counts as a souvenir!
