In one of our previous posts, we shared an awesome location for Harbour Seal viewing. But if you really want to get up close to cute pinnipeds, the best place for sea lion viewing is at La Jolla Cove.
Seals, sea lions… What’s the difference?
Sea Lion VS Seals | |
![]() |

visible earflaps | earholes |
bark | do not bark |
hindflippers more adapted for walking | wiggle & scoots on belly on land |
long front flippers | short front flippers |
Both are still wild animals so if you’re thinking of petting one, think again. While there is no barrier at La Jolla Cove, the sea lions are still very wary of humans and will bite. And if that doesn’t deter you, there is a guard tower watching you.

Someone has a really bad case of the Mondays.

A particularly cranky sea lion and two clueless visitors standing in the way of the sea lions trying to get out of the water.
