After 7 years in Arizona, we are still discovering new places like the Mogollon Rim.
We spent a weekend exploring the Rim area and hiked the super easy and scenic Rim Lakes Vista Trail (which is a 4.2 mile portion of the 60 mile General Crook Trail #140). It is probably the easiest trail we’ve ever been on, easily accessible next to Old Rim Road. In fact, if you just want to see the views without the walk, there are multiple parking pullovers along the trail.

We may have hit a few bugs on the ride here…

After hiking along the Rim, we took the jeep off of the paved roads and headed down the snowy dirt trail down to Woods Canyon Lake.
And it was frozen over!

This is what we do when we find out we can walk on water. This is how Jesus did it right?

Scenic enough for Christmas card photos right?

We also explored a couple miles farther to Bear Canyon Lake, which we had all to ourselves.

We stayed at the cute Kohl’s Ranch Lodge right along Tonto Creek.

While a great getaway in the winter, this will be another fun place when the summer heat hits Arizona!
