The Romero Pools Trail is an absolutely beautiful and rewarding hike in Catalina State Park, Tucson. This is our third time conquering this moderately strenuous day hike, always opting to do it in the early part of the year. Our first time visiting the pools was in March 2010 and second time in February of 2015. For 2018, we made it our first adventure of the year.

It typically doesn’t snow until February in Tucson, so at this time of the year, the pools were at the lowest we’ve seen them. This hike is probably best done in early March, when the snow in the Catalina Mountains are melting, and right before the temperatures really begin to rise. The other best time to do this hike would be during monsoon season (July & August) but hikers would have to beware of flash floods and the heat.
