Camping at Rose Canyon Lake
The weather reported clear skies for the last few days, the perfect opportunity for a weekend camping trip on Mount Lemmon, where it is always 20 degrees cooler than the rest of Tucson. So with the adventure mobile loaded with sleeping bags and other camping gear, we made our way to Rose Canyon. It has been 5 years since our last camping trip there.
We were lucky enough to snag a reserved cancellation close to Rose Canyon Lake.
Beautiful Rose Canyon Lake, which is stocked for recreational fishing by the Santa Catalina District.
Rose Canyon has a trail that runs through the backside of the camping area to the lake.
We did some exploring of the trail and discovered water!
Happiness is saving up months of laundry lint to finally use as tinder for my flint! I did eeeeet! Never mind that there's a starter log on there. And never mind that we threw lighter fluid once the fire was going...
Of course, the main point of going camping is the excuse to roast marshmallows...
...for S'mores!
Clearly too busy to help out with grilling dinner...
A small section of the Milky Way... right before monsoon rains rolled in with thunder and lightning. Not a single wink was slept that night. It sounded like heaven was playing a loud game of bowling. All night.
Morning clear skies. What monsoon?
Ahhhh... camping. There's nothing like it to remind us why we like sleeping in a hand-crafted Stearns & Foster mattress...
