We were told that people who go camping in Sedona at around this time end up turning into icicles... (20°F/-6°C) so instead of driving 4 hours for frost bite, we decided to stay local and camp on Mount Lemmon.

Here are a few pictures from our weekend of fire, food, games, embarrassing stories and getting in touch with mother nature:

A better part of our first hour consisted of gathering firewood.

A blue sky is one thing you can usually rely on in Arizona!

So with all the gathered firewood, we attempted to make a fire with a flint!

It didn't work out very well initially. We all gave it a couple goes.... nothing. Bear Grylls makes it look SO easy.

What part of the night consisted of....

By the time we all crawled into our sleeping bags, it was below freezing and our sleeping bags (which work for -30°F/-34°C) were definitely calling our names. I slept in a total of 3 pairs of socks, 3 pairs of pants and 4 tops.

After packing up, we explored around the lake.

Other than getting a case of altitude sickness and sleeping in the frigid cold, camping made for an excellent adventure.

Except that after 5 washes, I can still smell a trace of smoke in my hair. Actually, it smells like bacon.
