We hiked up to Blackett's Ridge for the 1st time back in April but with the summer heat, we've been avoiding desert hikes and have taken to Mount Lemmon. Now that the cooler months are back, we decided to climb back up Blackett's Ridge in Sabino Canyon.

Blackett's Ridge is a relatively short hike with a 1500 elevation gain within just 3.5 miles. I would mark this trail as the number one trail in Tucson to get the full desert experience for those short on time... and are in decent shape. This is a strenous hike and best done early mornings or later in the evening when the sun is not so harsh as this hike does not offer much shade. The effort is well worth the spectacular views of Coronado National Forest and the city of Tucson.

To get to the Blackett's Ridge trail head, follow the Phone Line Trail about half a mile. It will eventually split and this sign will lead you in the right direction. From here on you'll be climbing upwards so take a couple deep breaths because you'll need it!

Just when you think you're close to the end, you're actually only half way there at this point. But good news, Thimble Peak is within sight!

As if this trail wasn't strenuous enough, beware the monsters lurking around every switchback.
